Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient form of medicine which has become widely accepted worldwide for its therapeutic effects. It encompasses acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, dietary and lifestyle advice and Tuina (Chinese remedial massage).

From a Chinese medicine perspective, pain, disease, and illness are due to some sort of imbalance in the body’s qi (vital energy). Therefore, Chinese medicine utilizes a holistic approach to treating imbalance by addressing the underlying cause regulating homeostasis to restore balance in the body, mind, and spirit.

Our Treatments

Acupuncture

Acupuncture comprises of the insertion of very fine, sterile, disposable needles into specific acupuncture points on the body along the meridian pathways. These acupuncture points correspond to specific organs and tissues which assists the restoration of the free flow of qi, blood, and fluids in the body. For example, stimulating points on the “conception vessel” meridian influences the flow of blood to the uterus.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is part of traditional Chinese medicine therapy which involves the burning of dried mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) on acupuncture points or areas of the body. This heat warms the body and stimulates the flow of qi in the body.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient therapy which involves glass, plastic or silicon cups placed on the body to create suction in problem areas. It acts as a type of deep-tissue massage, reduces inflammation, eliminates congestion and toxins, and promotes circulation of qi and blood.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a technique used to promote the flow of qi and blood by bringing impurities to the surface of the body to be released. It involves oiling the skin and scraping the surface with a smooth tool.

Tuina

Tuina is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine which involves massage through a towel or clothing and incorporates acupressure. It is frequently used in conjunction with acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine has a long history and utilises a substantial pharmacopoeia of natural substances to establish potent formulas offering highly systemized and effective treatment.
